Apprenticeships
The sustainability of the construction industry relies on recruiting and training young people. With over 55 trainees and modern apprenticeships currently in training to become bricklayers, joiners, roofers, plasterers, plumbers and electricians, Herbert T Forrest offers a prudent investment for the future.

The apprentices are trained under the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme to NVQ Level 2 and 3. Their training is undertaken on a day release and block release basis using local colleges. The training period is usually 2 1/2 years to 3 years.
Training Officer

Our Training Officer, Andrew Brierley, is responsible for all of our apprentices. Andrew joined Herbert T Forrest in 2007. He interviews each apprentice personally and deals with all of their requirements throughout their apprenticeship period. Each apprentice is closely monitored by Andrew. He visits them on a regular basis, either on site or at college, to discuss their training and development and to raise any concerns they may have.
This approach has seen a significant increase in the achievements of the Company’s apprentices with very high pass rates at NVQ Level 2 and 3 and continuing our tradition of taking our trainees from apprenticeship to retirement.
Presenting an annual Apprentice of the Year Award to one of our trainees who has excelled in his or her chosen trade is key to developing goals amongst our apprentices. Our first application for a female painting and decorating modern apprentice was seen as a real sign our message of equality was finally reaching school leavers, bolstered by our support of several school based training initiatives.
